To honour Edinburgh’s veterans this Remembrance Day, the Barnton Bunker Preservation Society invites veterans and their families for a unique, free guided tour of Barnton Bunker. This historic three-level nuclear command centre, built to protect the UK’s royal family during the Cold War, is now being transformed into a space for arts, performances, and historical education.

Barnton Bunker Remembrance Day Event
Join us for a meaningful experience at Edinburgh’s Barnton Bunker this Remembrance Day. Explore a historic military command centre and nuclear shelter, preserved in tribute to those who served. Our guided tours will take you through three levels of this remarkable complex, where you can meet resident animals, watch a short documentary, and leave a heartfelt message in our “Dream Room.”
We welcome veterans and their families to reflect, connect, and honour the past in a peaceful setting. Enjoy tea in the courtyard and a chance to view the unique film, featuring stories from those who worked here in the 1950s-1960s.

Choose the number of tickets you need for your group.

Review your booking details and confirm your reservation.
You will receive an email confirmation with all the details of your booking, including the date, time, and number of tickets.
Upon your arrival for the guided tour, kindly gather at the bunker gates. Our tour is set to begin promptly at your chosen time, coinciding with the opening of the bunker gates.

Please note that the Barnton Bunker is currently undergoing restoration and is still a construction site. While we take every precaution to ensure the safety of our guests, accidents can still occur. By booking a tour with us, you acknowledge and accept that you are entering a potentially hazardous environment at your own risk. We will not be liable for any injuries, accidents or damage to personal property that may occur during your visit.
Please be aware that the tour involves walking on uneven terrain, climbing stairs and descending steep steps, and wearing a hard hat at all times. The tour is not recommended for individuals with mobility issues or certain medical conditions. We also ask that parents or guardians supervise their children at all times during the tour.
